What a long way we have come from the Academy of the Grande Chaumière, the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and from her stay at Casa Velasquez in Madrid!

Michèle Battut is one of those painters for whom the act of painting is above all the art of living. A great traveller, she travels the world with a passion and thus finds new inspiration on her journeys. She was appointed Official Painter of the Navy by the Minister of Defence and enjoys the privilege of boarding Fleet ships and being able to travel the world in search of new images and emotions.

Her searching into the image has led her to represent landscapes on canvas that she saw but that has gone on to sublimate with her imagination. Thus, her works represent spaces that seem limitless and, thanks to her talent, have become timeless. For Michèle Battut, the rigour of a painter's work must never allow us to forget the poetry and emotion experienced when standing in front of a design, she likes to work with large format canvases, and to express as closely as possible the sensitivity and beauty of a place. What also interests Michèle Battut is what lies behind the image she is observing: tracking down the invisible and its secrets, offering to « those who look » a scene where their imagination can create a story in a place where there are unlimited possibilities. Perhaps this is why she particularly likes the sky and the sea, always unchanging but always made new.
